The World Cup is held in Qatar this year. If you have plans to visit the country, please be aware that all visitors over the age of 18 will be required by the Qatar government to download two mandatory mobile apps: Ehteraz, a Covid-19 infection-tracking app, and Hayya, which, among other things, is used for tickets and public transport.

According to NRK's (Norways Television) security expert Øyvind Vasaasen, the applications request full access to your mobile phone, which means that the authorities in the country can read, manipulate or delete what is on it. The applications can also be used to track your location, connect to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, make phone calls, and turn off functions such as the screen lock.

So again, COVID is all about control – even when it has turned to a normal flu. Take care.
