Our confidence in digital and electronic devices, systems and security is sure excessive. Or, perhaps do we not care? The automatic systems are making us lazy, naive, apathic and ignorant. Here is an example of what can happen:
Security detectors are used to deter theft in stores and magazines. You cannot leave the local without paying for the product, if you try to leave without paying, a signal will beep and you will have a talk with the security. That is often the only control. It is now too expensive to employ people to control the local and in many Western countries, the police do not handle theft or shoplifting under a certain value. The society has few resources to pay for human resources. So a lot of things are supposed to work fine automatic. In the commerce, electronic tags will activate the alarm if something is wrong. Or ?
A booster bag is a handmade bag used to shoplift, typically from retail stores, libraries, and any other location employing security detectors to deter theft. The booster bag can be an ordinary shopping bag, backpack, pocketed garment, or other inconspicuous container whose inside is lined with a special material, typically multiple layers of aluminium foil. An item is placed inside the booster bag (effectively a Faraday cage). This provides electromagnetic shielding, with the result that electronic security tags inside the bag may not be detected by security panels in the detector antennas at the store exit.
Booster bags have been used by professional shoplifters for several years. A shoplifter can steal dozens of items with very little effort. As law and order is just a business for the Court and the Police, the public employees in this System do not care so much about a troubled society; However, small things for the government, can be big things for citizens and shop owners. The extra cost for the uncontrolled theft comes on your bill.
